Description:
The Kraken is a mammoth of a beast that resembles a whale, if you look at it just right. It is very fat and is approximately 12 inches long. It has a light sensor mounted to the front in order to read the pollution in the water. It has 3 sets of wheels, 2 in front and one in the back where the tail would be. The wheels will allow it to turn when it reaches the end of the ocean.
Habitat and Behaviors:
The Kraken lives in the ocean and swims throughout the water hoping to clean up after all the humans that have been destroying its habitat. When it comes across an oil spill, black butcher paper, it will create a sound that starts to clean the water. It will travel to the edge of the ocean searching for other pollutants. When it reaches the edge, the light sensor will tell it to turn around.
The environment is created from a queen size bed sheet that is white and blue butcher paper that is taped to the sheet. Black paper has been cut to resemble an oil spill. Ocean sound music will be playing in the background and a copy of the book that inspired this exhibit, Island of the Aunts written by Eva Ibbotson, will be close by. Listen to an interview by Eva Ibbotson.
